We welcome you to this birthplace of
Lord Gautam Buddha. The founder of Buddhism, this legendary deity is believed
to get his birth in Kapilvastu, Lumbini district of Nepal. He lived a carefree
life as a princess in his hometown and then absconded from this place to
nowhere in search of peace and non – violence. Later, he was found to be
meditating under a holy tree, which is now known as ‘The Holy Bodhi Tree’. He
is believed to get enlightened though this prolonged phase of meditation.
The first phase of our Buddhist
Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal starts with a detailed visit and sightseeing within
the Buddhism related monasteries and Gumbas in Kathmandu. The major sites
include the Swayambhunath Temple [The Monkey Temple], Maha Boudha and several
other shrines in the city.
Secondly, we drive or fly from
Kathmandu to Pokhara where other major sites such as the World Peace Pagoda and
the Tibetan Refugee Centre will be considered. We make an extended exploration
in these sites and then return back to a hotel in Pokhara to stay overnight.
The very next day, early in the morning, we head towards Lumbini; the most
significant and the largest Buddhism holy area in the country. Here we make a
study on the famous Maya Devi temple, the holy pong Puskarini and the monastic
zone where only monasteries and shrines and not any public buildings are
supposed to be built.
